An article in the Daily News reported this Saturday that 19 year-old Caleb Lacey, was indeed sentenced with arson and four counts of murder for setting a house in the February 19th fire in North Lawrence, Long Island. A woman and three of her children were killed.

Officials have stated that Lacey’s intention was to be a hero, because he was desperately in need of recognition. Lacey was fairly new to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department.

So what does this say about society? Individuals are constantly searching to find a way to be on top. Why does this seem to happen? One possible answer to this question could be that heroes are deemed “cool”, brave, and one in a million.

Maybe Lacey was tired of being the under dog and wanted a chance to be taken seriously. But the way he went about things was totally out of line and insane. One has to wonder, is Lacey mentally stable?  The sequence of events seems odd! Because Lacey did know the people with whom he staged the fire.

Did he see this on T.V.? The entire thought process does not make sense and what he believed would happen seems too good to be true. He though he could be the first one to receive the call, rush to the site, and run in to save four people.

Personally, I find the entire story absolutely devastating. The message that the media (film-makers, producers, and networks) portrays at times seems to be jaded. However, I do believe justice was served. You simply cannot attempt to take a life in hopes of being a hero, because society will never see you as such. Instead, society will look at you as a “nut case.”

It is the t.v. show of the season- America’s Next Top Model! So on Wednesday, when America’s Next Top Model broad-casted its need for “shorties”- model’s under 5’7, it was like music to the ears of hundreds of women all over America. But never in a million years, did anyone of these eager young women expect to be in a middle of a tragic brawl.

Yesterday, while hundreds of women were waiting in line to have the chance to be apart of the reality t.v. show,  an overheating car triggered into the stampede of eager young women. There was absolute chaos when someone yelled: “there’s a bomb.” After all was said and done, six women were injured and two women and one man were busted for inciting a riot. What was suppose to be an outstanding event, turned out to be a deadly flop.

I find it to be very sad that the event turned out this way. And what’s even worst was the fight between two men, who could not seem to sop taunting each other after the whole car incident had already occurred. One threatened the other with a gun, which sent more of the perspective models into another frenzy. It is unfortunate that not even one person had a chance to be considered for the show.

I find it even more interesting that this person would carry a weapon to a casting for a reality t.v. show. What was that all about? I mean really! I do feel bad that this event may cause spectators to view the producer and creator of the show, Tyra Banks in a negative light. It is obvious that Banks would not want something like this to happen, but what does this say about her management and security towards casting calls? I hate to say it, but I do agree with the police department. The event was “poorly organized.”

Have a closer look at me!

Okay after the two weeks of the Chris Brown and Rhianna drama, and Jay-Z getting into this beef is it true that Rhianna went back into his arms? Yes, according to an article published in the Daily News, sources have revealed the two have made up after all.

I just have one question. Why did you make such a big deal Rhianna about this domestic violence attack, if you had every intention of going back? I feel like this is such a publicity stunt, and can understand how strong love is, but really Rhianna?

And I am even more surprised that Diddy allowed the two at his Miami pad. Not a good move in my opinion. Diddy is now caught up in this teenage heartbreak romance and for what reason.

This whole public love affair needs to either go sour or out of the eyes for all to see, because I have had enough of these cat and mouse games. At the end of the day both of these pop stars are role-models. What message do you intend to show you fans? Is it okay for women to be abused? Chris, Rhianna please get your lives together AND GO YOUR SEPARATE WAYS!

rupert-murdoch

Okay, so I do realize that this post may be a few days late, because Mr. Murdoch did re-adjust his apology for the racist cartoon, but there is a reason for this late post. I simply needed a few days to let the apology dwell in my mind. However, my feelings are still the same. The Post is a racist organization that is a force to be reckoned with!

There was absolutely no reason why that cartoon should have made it to print. What kind of message is the Post sending to its readers? What- is it okay for me to belittled and called a chimp? So should I in return turn around and call all of our previous presidents honkeys, crackers, or Klansman?

This controversial cartoon has caused myself and many African Americans to take action. I do once again support Reverend Al Sharpton, who has rallied with famed director Spike Lee to have  the Post, My nine, and Myspace under review by the FCC. Such behavior that Murdoch has demonstrated in his organization is a deadly weapon or rather a hazard to the community and residents living in New York City.

What has the world come to? I am convinced that America is and will always be racist. Yes, Barack is President, but he doesn’t even get the same respect all of the previous white presidents received, and that is the biggest shame our country has displayed. America- the land of the free yea right! How can we help other countries, if we can not rectify the problems that are ever present in this country.

Am I proud to be an American? I cannot answer that question, because time after time America has let me down. Its truly a shame that African Americans STILL have to prove themselves to their fellow  brother. I am taking it there. I am not playing the race card, but this is what America sends to its people. The white man gets the red carpet or royal treatment, while the black man has to fight to prove himself to the white man, who just wants to be just like him.

So Murdoch, you can take your sorry  excuse for an apology and see if the African American society will ever support you again. Because at least that is one thing, we black folks get right, we stick together!

There must be  a level of respect for the President of the United States of America. From the time President Barack Obama has stepped foot in the White House there has been speculation mixed with concern. The bottom line is that Barack Obama is qualified for the position.

But when spectators cross the line and become utterly disrespectful, there must be a line drawn. The reality here is that the Post actually condones such idiotic behavior. The Post published the drawing on Wednesday, from famed cartoonist Sean Delonas. The drawing is full of violent imagery and racial undertones that are both insulting and belittling to the President of the United States of America.  Well, the actual cover-up the Post used for the entire situation was that the illustration was a parody of the recent news story about the obessed woman and her chimp who attacked a woman in Stamford, Connecticut.

However, I stand by both Reverend Al Sharpton and more recently, Spike Lee, because enough is enough! The cartoon was not a display of a parody, social satire, or an expression of free speech. It was a display of ignorance, hate, and arrogance. Why should New Yorkers , more specifically African Americans go on and buy the Post ?  Rupert Murdoch clearly views our community to be less than that of human being, so we should BOYCOTT!

Even though the Post attempted to make an apology two days after the the drawing was issued, in my opinion, the Post should have kept their dry and poorly constructed apology! Their words only made the situation worst.

Never would you imagine that the President would talk so highly of your day job! Well, President Barack Obama wants to replicate what I do five days a week… HCZ is Red Hott!

Drama, Drama, and more drama seems to be the word of the week for Rhianna and Chris Brown, but not if Jay Z has something to do with it!

Last Sunday’s alleged altercation with Rhianna and Chris Brown has sparked “words of wisdom” within rap artist, Jay-Z, 39,who has summoned all of Rhianna’s fans to think of her as family, who has suffered from abuse.

“I just think we should all support her. She’s going through a tough time,” Jay-Z said in a brief interview in Phoenix while he was attending NBA All-Star weekend. “You have to realize she’s a young girl, as well. She’s very young.”

Jay-Z is one of the people responsible for Rhianna’s success in the music industry, and he thinks of her as his protege. Jay-Z instantly signed the Bajan singer in 2005, who has attained five Billboard Hot 100 number ones (“S.O.S.”, “Umbrella”, “Take A Bow”, “Disturbia”, and T.I’s “Live Your Life”).

According to a Daily News article, Jay-Z was furious with boyfriend, Chris Brown,19, for allegedly beating her up after a pre-Grammy party.  Chris Brown faces felony battery charges in Los Angeles, where he allegedly attacked, fled the scene, and left Rhianna on a deserted dark Los Angeles street.

“You have to have compassion for others,” Jay-Z said in an interview with People Magazine. ”Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that.”

Rhianna, 20,  suffered bruises and a split lip and has not been seen in public since February 8th.

Family members of Rhianna say she has returned home to Barbados and is staying with friends as she recovers.

Brown turned himself  in to the LAPD for questioning. He was polite, cooperated with the police, and was set free after he paid 50,000 bail on February 9th, police said.

There were reports from friends of Jay-Z that he intended to call for  street revenge on Brown.  But sources close to Jay-Z told the News those reports were crazy and he was only worried about Rihanna’s well-being.

Compassion…maybe, but all this sounds like a street, hip-hop, soap opera or a good way to introduce a new album!
